Good Evening Class/Professor,
Its been so long since I took a face to face math class it is hard for me to compare. I think the online model can work and I am learning. At times if I had a teacher in the room I could ask questions and get an immediate answer if I actually asked the question. Sometimes in large in-person classes, someone might not ask a question for fear of the class thinking it was a stupid question. I think one benefit of an online math class is I can email any question I want. I do think at times the online video moves a little quick and the instructor could slow it down and explain some of the details, one could benefit from an algebra class before taking Statistics as well. There are a ton of formulas and sometimes using the right formula for the right job is tough.
The first three weeks I struggled a bit with time. I would do a lesson and then work on the study guide questions and move on. I realized quickly that on quiz weeks I would be pressed for time to get the forum, homework, and quiz done on time. In order to remedy this, I would take notes on all the video lectures and then go straight to the homework and really get my practice in there. I would also try and find the forum question in the reading/video in order to get the ball moving on my post as soon as possible. What I need to start doing in order to ease the second half of this course, is to dig into Excel and get a better handle on what I would call a cheat code. I ask why a lot and I like to know how we got the answer we got, but again I’m realizing that when one problem is around 20 different long calculations that it takes 30 mins to do one problem, I need to just trust in Excel an use it to do some of that heavy lifting. To help the old folks like myself who have not seen a math class in a couple of minutes I would recommend that they make Algebra and an Excel course as a prerequisite.
